A woman has been found dead along a canal in Phoenix, raising speculation about a possible connection to Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance.
The remains were found Friday, more than 100 miles from Tucson, where the 84-year-old matriarch disappeared on February 1.
“Details of the call indicate that an adult female was on the bank of the nearby canal and was unresponsive,” police said in a statement. “When officers arrived, they located the woman, who was eventually pronounced dead at the scene.”
Phoenix police have not yet released any identifying information about the woman they found, but the Pima County Sheriff’s Department He said in a statement to Fox News Digital That they were not alerted of any connection to the Guthrie case.
The slow pace of the investigation has frustrated Guthrie’s loved ones, including her daughter, “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie, who has offered a $1 million cash reward for information leading to her safe return or recovery.
Security footage obtained from Nancy’s doorbell camera captured a masked man — possibly two different men — loitering on her doorstep the night before police believe she was kidnapped.
A large amount of evidence recovered from the house, including traces of blood, is still being investigated. However, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos warned that it could take up to “a year” to analyze everything, especially evidence containing DNA.
PCSD told the newspaper that the investigation remains very active as there are still 300 to 400 individuals assigned to the case, as was the case when the case was first opened.
