Will Don Sweeney buy or sell?

Boston Bruins

It remains unclear whether the Bruins will decide to buy or sell before Friday’s deadline.

Don Sweeney and his staff have some decisions to make.

The Bruins could still be in the playoff picture Friday before the NHL trade deadline at 3 p.m.

But Boston is operating on thin ice. After Thursday’s ugly road loss to Nashville, just one point separates the Bruins (34-22-5) and the Columbus Blue Jackets — who sit just below Boston on the postseason dividing line.

Sweeney confirmed earlier this week that he wants to give Boston’s superior roster a boost before the deadline. But given the state of this seller’s market, could the Bruins move away from the asset in hopes of greater returns in the future?

As the deadline continues to approach, here’s a look at some of Boston’s potential trade targets — as well as a rundown of some of the trade chips Boston has on its own roster.

Follow along here as we keep you up to date with all the latest news leading up to the trade deadline – including quick notes on any Boston trades, scouting reports on acquired assets, and rumblings about the rest of the NHL.

Live updates

11:20: The name to watch is Columbus – which is just one point behind Boston in the standings.

They were active late Thursday night — acquiring winger Connor Garland from the Canucks for a 2028 second-round pick and a 2026 third-round pick.

The Bruins have been linked to Garland, who hails from Scituate, who is signed for the next six seasons and will provide some top-six goals.

However, I have argued that Garland – who turns 30 next week – is not exactly the player to put you over the top this season… and does not fit the schedule at this club.

11:15: Swinney said so on Monday He would like to give this team a boost – But the players themselves have done little over the past few days to reward those comments with points in the standings.

It would be great to know what path Boston takes before 3 p.m

11:00: Greetings from Warrior Ice Arena! It should be an eventful day ahead.
