Today fans have missed seeing Sheinelle Jones on their screens over the past few months. The TV personality has been taking a break from the show for personal reasons.
How Long Has Sheinelle Jones Been Absent From ‘Today’?
Sheinelle first stepped away from Today in December 2024. Her absence from multiple weeks in a row caused fans to take to social media demanding answers.
“Not even a recorded piece from @SheinelleJones on the @TODAYshow for @hodakotb‘s last day?! Seems odd. Hope she’s ok,” one person posted on X at the time.
Her absence continued into the New Year, as some major changes took place at Today. Hoda Kotb marked her final episode as a cohost on January 10, 2025. Craig Melvin took over Hoda’s position as Savannah Guthrie‘s coanchor in the show’s early morning hours beginning on January 13, 2025. Sheinelle was absent for both events.
“Where is Sheinelle?? Congratulations to Craig, but can someone on the today show let us know where Sheinelle is??” an Instagram commenter asked after Sheinelle’s absence from Craig’s first broadcast after his promotion.
Sheinelle has been absent from the show ever since December 18, 2024.
Why Is Sheinelle Jones Not on the ‘Today’ Show?
The Pennsylvania native took to social media on January 15, 2025, to explain why she has not been appearing on Today.
“I sincerely appreciate all of you who have reached out while I’ve been absent from the show. I want to share with you that I’m taking time to deal with a family health matter,” she wrote on Instagram in a statement. “It’s not lost on me how lucky I am to have not on the support of my Today show family, but to also have all of you. Your kindness means so much to me. I’ll see you soon. Love, Sheinelle.”
Several of her Today colleagues, including Savannah, Hoda, Jenna Bush Hager, Carson Daly and Jill Martin, all left supportive comments underneath the post.
After the statement was posted, her colleagues took a moment to show their love for her during an episode of Today.
“We want to share some news about our friend Sheinelle,” Savannah said during an episode of the show. “She posted to Instagram this morning, letting everyone know she has been taking some time off to deal with a personal family health matter. She thanked everyone for their kindness and their concern about her. We know so many of you have been asking about Sheinelle and missing her, and we miss her too.”
Months later, in April 2025, Al, Craig and Dylan Dreyer spoke about how Sheinelle was doing amid her time away from the show.
“Just talked to her a couple of days ago. She’s taking some time to be with her family and we talk to her all the time, and we love our girl. It’s been nice to see how much everyone loves her, too,” Craig told Access Hollywood.
“We’re just praying for her,” Al said.
“She misses being here, you know, she wishes she was here with us but she’s doing what she needs to do and she’ll be back,” Dylan said in agreement.
Sheinelle Jones’ Husband Passed Away
On May 23, 2025, the Today cohosts announced during an episode of the show that Sheinelle’s husband, Uche Ojeh, died following a battle with brain cancer.
“There are no words for the pain we feel for Sheinelle and their three young children. Uche was an incredible person,” Savannah said. “We all loved him. And so we want to take a moment to tell you more about the remarkable man who was Sheinelle’s perfect partner in life.”
“We just want to say Sheinelle, Kayin, Uche and Clara and the Ojeh family: we are with you, we love you,” she said. “You are our family and we’re just sending all of our love to you right now.”
