The 2025 NFL Draft class has been criticized this offseason for its lack of blue-chip talent. However, the class does have a deep group of talented running backs.
During Day 1, the two most celebrated running backs, Ashton Jeanty and Omarion Hampton, flew off the board. However, Day 2 will likely see many talented players selected, such as Damien Martinez from Miami (FL). Who is Martinez, and who are his siblings?
Who Are Damien Martinez’s Siblings?
Martinez began his college career at Oregon State University; he only has one brother listed on his profile, Davean.
There is no information available about Davean.
Martinez’s Journey to College
In PFSN’s most recent mock draft, Martinez was selected in Round 3, 76th overall, by the Dallas Cowboys.
“The Cowboys met with Damien Martinez twice in the lead-up to the 2025 NFL Draft. Assuming they target an RB on Day 2, he should be one of their top options. Despite his appearance as a volume back, Martinez has fluidity and savvy to go with his physicality.”
If the Cowboys select Martinez, he would be headed back home. He attended high school in Lewisville, Texas, which is a suburb of Dallas.
During his time at Lewisville High School, he rushed 532 times for 4,341 yards and 66 touchdowns. He earned All-State honors and was the District Offensive Player of the Year and the District MVP.
He was recruited by several teams, including Georgia Tech and Kansas, but chose Oregon State.
Martinez’s Time at Oregon State
He initially got off to a slow start with the Beavers but picked up steam as his freshman season progressed. In their eighth game against Colorado, he had 22 carries for 178 yards and three touchdowns. He was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week.
He continued to improve and ultimately finished his first season with 982 yards on 161 attempts and seven touchdowns. He also caught four passes for another 61 yards. He was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and first-team All-Pac-12.
Martinez’s sophomore season was even better than his freshman season. He started in all 12 games and finished the year with 194 attempts for 1,185 yards and nine touchdowns. He also had 11 receptions for 126 yards. He tied the school’s single-game record with four rushing touchdowns against Stanford. He was first-team All-Pac-12 and a Doak Walker Award semifinalist.
Martinez Transferred to Miami
In 2024, Martinez announced that he would transfer to Miami. On social media, he called it “the hardest [decision] I’ve made in my entire life.”
While he was only with the Hurricanes for a single season, it was an impressive one. He put up the first 1,000-yard campaign by a Hurricane running back since 2016. He was one of the top offensive contributors and was given All-ACC Honorable Mention. He rushed 159 times for 1,002 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also had 17 receptions for 204 yards.
Martinez’s Scouting Report in the 2025 NFL Draft
PFSN’s Scouting Report of Martinez calls him a “certified bruiser” at 6’0″ and 232 lbs. “Martinez uses his size and strength in a manner that makes him one of the best power backs in the 2025 NFL Draft,” said PFSN’s Jacob Infante.
However, it is not all about his size. He is a “tough runner” whose legs keep going despite contact, helping him pick up extra yards.
He does have some weaknesses, including his speed and shiftiness. Because of those limitations, he will be a two-down back in the pros, which may hurt his draft stock. But Martinez is a “strong, determined runner” who should be a solid short-yardage back in the league.
