Honolulu (Khon2) – If a tsunami is coming to your area, do you know what kind of alert for his monitor?
There are generally four different tsunami alerts. Everyone means something different and know what it means can save your life.
These alerts come from the Tsunami Warning Center in the Pacific Ocean and the National Weather Service.
Here’s what to know and what you do.
Tsunami
This is more dangerous. This means that the tsunami is expected to hit the coastal areas or actually happen. The warning usually depends on a large earthquake under sea (size 7.5 or higher) or tsunami seen on deep global sensors.
Warnings mean that you need to evacuate coastal areas immediately. The sounds of sirens in those areas will hear for three minutes. Stay away from the beaches and away from the ports, rivers and low areas.
Warnings mean that you need to move to higher land and listen to updates from official sources. Return only when provincial officials give “everything clear.”
Tsunami
The clock means that the tsunami may come and that there is still no certainty, and more information is needed. The hours are usually released after remote earthquakes somewhere across the Pacific Ocean.
Use time to prepare. See your evacuation path, Go-Kit Package, and stay up every 30 minutes to an hour. Do not accept unless the alert is upgraded to a warning.
Tsunami Consulting
Consulting is expected to mean waves and strong currents. Dangerous conditions still hurt swimmers, boats and those close to water. But the main floods are unexpected.
Stay out of the water and outside the coast. Small boats must be secured. Large boats may be requested to the sea. Therefore, it is necessary to follow instructions from the civil defense.
