What happened to the four men originally accused of the Yogurt Shop Murders?

Austin – Advanced DNA has referred to one suspect in yogurt in 1991, but in the early first decade of the twentieth century, the police believed that four men were linked to the crime.

Jennifer Harbison, 17, was shot, Sarah Harbison, 17 -year -old, Elisa Thomas, 17, and Amy Aires, at the Zabadiya North Austin, in which the fire caught fire after that. 34 years after the investigation, Police said they had identified Robert Prarsh, who died in suicide in 1999, as a suspect in the case.

Jesse Freud, chief staff lawyer in Texas innocence project. “There are many circumstances that could never lead to this day, and no legal miracles have occurred.”

Before the Austin Police Department handed the case to the killing unit in the cold case, the “Yogurt Store” team arrested four men with regard to the killing.

Morris Peres, Forest WillPorne, Robert Springstein and Michael Scott teen in 1991. Pierce, 16, was arrested at the commercial center for his pregnancy. At that time, the police believed that the gun was used in killings.

“They tried to provide evidence for these four boys, instead of searching for what the evidence has already proven,” said Lad Slavik, who represented Pierce in court. “Making the glass slippers from Cinderella is suitable for an elephant.”

Police said Pierce confessed – after 18 hours of interrogation – to lend to the gun to Wilborn. During the interrogation, Pierce said that Wilborn admitted that he was involved in the crime, and this was not true.

After another round of interrogation, the police said that Pierce’s description did not match the scene of the crime, and that the ballistic evidence refuted that his weapon was the murder.

But in 1999, the four men were arrested on charges of intentional killing.

During interrogation, Springsteen and Scott were involved, or accused each other, but Welborn and Pierce did not admit the death.

Freud said: “The police are likely to obtain false confession whenever the case increases,” Freud said.

The jury rejected the accusation of Wilborn. Ultimately, Pierce’s charges were dropped, but Slavik said he spent 4 years in prison awaiting the date of the court. Pears died in a quarrel with Austin police officer in 2010.

“He was constantly continuously by enforcement, a mistake,” Slavic said. “In one way or another, I am sure that this led to his death.”

Springstein and Sakut went to trial, and the jury found both guilty. Springstin was given the death penalty, and Scott was sentenced to life imprisonment without conditional release.

After the 2004 US Supreme Court’s decision, the Scott and Speringine Judge granted new trials.

Freud said: “This issue is in fact an anomaly in the fact that the direct appeal process has gained the constitutional error that mainly saved their lives.”

In preparation for that trial, DNA guides were reviewed. None of the men was physically linked to death.

Springstin and Sakut convictions turned, and they marched freely in 2009.

Freud said: “I hope that this turn now will be an opportunity for them to treat legal conditions,” Freud said.

Springstin filed a lawsuit against the state, requested up to 700,000 dollars in response to an unlawful condemnation and an innocent declaration. The case was rejected.

Provincial lawyer Jose Jarza said that the investigators have adopted the initial confessions. According to the Texas Patent Project12 % of the justifications included people who gave false confessions.

“The overwhelming evidence indicates the guilt of one man and four innocence,” Jarza said at the press conference on Monday. “If the conclusions of this investigation are confirmed, the Travis da County Office will take responsibility.”
