Despite all the talk of optimism during the offseason, the Miami Heat are possibly looking at a winless offseason. The team has struggled to secure a win, leaving fans concerned about the state of their upcoming 2025-26 season.
However, with Bam Adebayo possibly injured, the Heat might be in a tougher spot than expected.
Is Miami Heat Star Bam Adebayo’s Injury More Severe Than Expected?
Extending their preseason’s winless run by another game, the Heat lost to the Atlanta Hawks in a narrow 119-118 encounter. However, Adebayo’s injury was even more concerning than a 0-5 preseason start.
Suffering from a knee injury, the Heat star exited during the game’s third quarter and didn’t return. Fans, of course, were immensely worried about Abebayo’s injury. If the injury was severe, Adebayo could even miss the start of the regular season.
Head coach Erik Spoelstra updated fans after the game, confirming that Adebayo’s absence from the game was just a precaution.
“Erik Spoelstra said postgame tonight in Atlanta that Bam Adebayo (knee contusion) not returning to the game was precautionary, and the Heat are returning home with every expectation that he’s fine,” AP’s Tim Reynolds wrote.
Adebayo was having a good game before his injury, scoring 13 points, nine rebounds, and three assists in just 19 minutes.
Thankfully, a new update confirmed that Adebayo’s injury wasn’t severe and won’t require an MRI. And since the contusion is just a contusion, Adebayo should return to the court soon.

That being said, the Heat’s entire season depends on Adebayo’s status. With players like Tyler Herro and Andrew Wiggins on the team, Adebayo’s presence on the roster becomes crucial.
Not only is the center a capable playmaker, but also an experienced leader for a relatively younger team.
Adebayo Has Been Confident About the Heat’s Roster Shakeup
Last season, the Heat roster was turned upside down after Jimmy Butler’s departure to the Golden State Warriors. A cornerstone of the team’s success, the Heat would be looking at a complete restructuring for the new season.
Adebayo, aware of the new roster changes, remained confident that the team would bounce back.
“It’s a very good shake-up for our team, and now there’s a different dynamic to it,” the Heat star said in an interview.
Having said that, Adebayo’s status for their upcoming game is unconfirmed.
Miami will play their final preseason game against the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday, Oct. 17.
