'We're hoping to survive': Colfax business impacted during construction project

Denver (KDVR) – As construction continues on East Colfax Street, one of the restaurant owners talks about the effects of the project.

The grill and pastries sits in Yahya, which is located in 2207 E Colfax Ave, in the area where construction is on the bus travel line, which is expected to be completed in 2027.

Fox31 conducted an interview with the owner of Yahya Ameen, who offers medium cuisine and the original Middle East. Fox31 tells that despite the positive reviews and comments from customers, people do not come across the doors as they are used to.

Amin said: “We have survived Kovid. We hope to survive what is going on now with construction,” Amin said.

In an attempt to adapt to the construction, the restaurant has expanded new advertisements and banners outside the parking lots at the back, but he said it is still insufficient, as the restaurant relies heavily on the other services it provides.

Amin said: “The only thing that makes me continue now is the orders of my food. I do some of the foodstuff orders. I get one or two requests for this week just to keep the doors open,” Amin said.

Ameen is one of many restaurant owners on East Colfax Avenue to the community to support Local, where some have previously spoken to Fox31, saying that the construction affected customers who walk across the door.

Amin said: “Our work is similar to our first child. My daughter took his first step here, it is a small family company and you know, everyone is walking here. They leave happy and make a friend.”

Despite the construction, Amin hopes that customers will continue to support the restaurant and enter.
