R Mason Thomas’s NFL Draft Potential

R. Mason Thomas is one of several undersized EDGE prospects in the 2026 NFL Draft, but there’s one thing he does better than all of them: Convert speed-to-power. Make no mistake: Thomas still has the supernova-like explosive ability and speed off the snap, and he still has the gravity-defying bend to run the arc at a high level.

But he can also channel massive amounts of force from his burst and extension load, and that ability to generate speed-to-power improves his ceiling as a potential odd-front starter at OLB. Thomas can be a pass-rush catalyst right away, and his range in pursuit also bodes well.

CFB Week 9 Update

The limitations of Thomas’ profile were alluded to in Oklahoma’s Week 9 loss to the Ole Miss Rebels. The Sooners were down 22-10 at halftime and were stuck in a negative game script for most of the game, while Ole Miss was able to play ball control with quick passes and a blend of QB and RB runs.

Thomas, who profiles as primarily a designated pass-rusher, wasn’t able to pin his ears back and get home often in the pass game, and in the run game, his smaller frame proved easy to direct and reroute. These run game and game script limitations could affect Thomas’ stock in April and settle him out in mid-to-late Day 2 range.

CFB Week 10 Update

If Week 9 was a “stock down” week for Thomas, Week 10 was a “stock up” showing. Thomas was indispensable in Oklahoma’s 33-27 victory over Tennessee, and in fact made up the difference with a fumble recovery touchdown. Thomas’ TD return alone was impressive; he stiff-armed and buried a tight end in the dirt after churning his feet through contact. But that same TE, Thomas stacked with explosive hands to play contain before going for the ball — a good football play that was rewarded.

That wasn’t the only play where Thomas made his presence felt, either. He notched a sack and multiple pressures as a pass-rusher with his relentless explosive element, bend, angle malleability, and speed-to-power, and that speed-to-power also aided him in sledging seal blocks and mitigating displacement as a run defender. Thomas’ complete showing, against an offensive line with an abundance of NFL talent, should have him rising back up the board.

Where Is Thomas Being Selected Most Often in the PFSN Mock Draft Simulator?

Thomas currently holds the No. 59 overall rank among prospects, positioning him as a Day 2 prospect. His most recent Average Draft Position (ADP) of 61.1 as of October 27 reflects that he is typically being selected in the second or third round.

This small gap between rank and ADP suggests he’s consistently valued among evaluators, even amid fluctuations in player evaluations at this stage of the draft cycle.

Users controlling the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been the team that selected Thomas the most frequently over the past week, accounting for 1.4% of their picks across all seven rounds.
