Austin – The more advanced artificial intelligence, the more smart people also use it. AI tools allow bad actors to create realistic messages and cloning sounds and produce Deepfake videos – all to deceive and fraud.
Heather Massi spoke to Better Business Bureau (BBB) with KXAN about how artificial intelligence uses people’s deception and how to protect yourself.
“Well, Amnesty International is great, we love our new technology, but they are also improving in fraud,” Massi said.
Massi said that one of the most worrying trends is the rise of Deepfake videos.
“One of the people we see is somewhat what we call a deep fake. These are deep fake videos that really take a good known person,” Massi said. “I know that we have great celebrities here recently that they did a deep fake, they were in the hospital, and they were communicating with their fans asking for money, and they used the names of people, the first and last names. It seemed very good. These were going out to their immediate messages, and they really were trying to convince them that this person needs to help him.
But Deepfakes is not the only concern. The fraud that AI-AI-Histration is a wide range of tactics including: audio cloning, email messages, pure hunting and texts, fake and romantic customer service conversations or investment chats.
“So, they target a lot of people, when you think about it, on social media. We put a lot of things from there and with artificial intelligence they can actually go there and copy your profiles, and run them through some programs and really create similarities on your face, vote and even some content that you should really customize, so you think particularly for you.”
