Quinn Ewers began his college career as one of the most highly-touted quarterback prospects of all time. He initially joined the Ohio State Buckeyes as a five-star prospect in the 2021 recruiting class; however, he left the program after just one season, joining the Texas Longhorns via the transfer portal.
He led the Longhorns to a 27-9 record and two College Football Playoff appearances in three seasons as the starting quarterback. Ewers threw for 9,128 yards, 68 touchdowns, and 24 interceptions while completing 64.9% of his pass attempts, while adding eight rushing touchdowns. Take a look at his reaction to being drafted by the Miami Dolphins.
Quinn Ewers Reacts to Being Drafted by Dolphins
Ewers realized his dreams of making it to the NFL on Day 3 of the draft. The Miami Dolphins selected the former five-star recruit in the seventh round. Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports shared a clip of his emotional reaction as he got the call.
Emotional moment for Texas QB Quinn Ewers — a moment that was well worth the wait. The #Dolphins got a steal.

There were questions about whether or not Ewers would enter the draft following back-to-back appearances in the College Football Playoff. While the Longhorns were ready to turn the program over to Arch Manning, their former quarterback reportedly had an offer of $4 million from the Miami Hurricanes on the table to return for one final season of college football. Further reports suggest that he could have made up to $8 million.
Instead, Ewers opted into the 2025 NFL Draft, where he was selected 231st overall. He will likely earn just over $4 million on his four-year rookie deal. He is the third quarterback currently on the Dolphins’ roster, joining Tua Tagovailoa and Zach Wilson. The rookie could be in a good position, as he will likely compete for the backup job due to the limited options available.
He is unlikely to earn a starting role anytime, as Tagovailoa was rated as the eighth-best quarterback in the league by PFN’s QB+ metric. Ewers could, however, see the field during his first season in the league as the 2023 Pro Bowler appeared in just 11 games last season and has a history of concussions.
Three-time Pro Bowler wide receiver Dez Bryant gave Ewers lofty praise, claiming that he is already better than the incumbent starter, tweeting:
“I like Quinn Ewers over Tua already. He’s Dan Marino 2.0 and yes..I said it.”
