(BCN) – The Board of Directors of the Transport Authority in the Santa Clara Valley, which faces the third week of the strike by the transit workers, will meet behind the closed doors on Sunday after it has asked the federation to delay the vote on the latest offer of the contract.
Up to 100,000 passengers since the Union Transit Union Local 265 light buses and light railways when his contract ended on March 10.
Before announcing the meeting, the Federation called for a vote by 1500 members for Saturday. The Union leaders encouraged their members to reject the latest VTA offer.
The vote was postponed at the request of VTA pending the results of the board meeting, ATU spokesman Ryan Ford said on Saturday. He said that no new date has been set.
Ford said: “Only waiting to know what the VTA council will direct its employees,” Ford said.
VTA said it had made 10.5 % wage increases over a period of three years, according to a press statement on Friday, an increase of its previous offer of 9.3 %. In negotiations, the Union sought by 18 %.
Another issue is the Union’s proposal to settle disputes by allowing workers to bring their grievances to a neutral third party and avoid going to court.
The two sides have been negotiating a new contract for three years since August.
The agency said on Friday.
“The ATU leadership has kept its members and passengers who rely on public transportation of their livelihood for two weeks,” said VTA. “ATU is responsible for ensuring that its members get the facts.”
Union leaders urged, in updating negotiations published on the Internet on Thursday, the rejection of the offer.
Al -Ittihad said: “The administration explained that it will not provide more than a total of 10.5 %, which justifies their position by referring to reasons such as the highest ATU offer in the past decade, claiming that we are” uneducated workers “, budget restrictions and potential need to reduce services.”
“Since we have once reached a dead end and the agency refuses to budge, we offer the offer to vote for membership,” Al -Ittihad told its members. “However, there is no misunderstanding – your leadership has not agreed to this proposal. The negotiating team strongly recommends not to vote unanimously.”
The supervisor of the Santa Clara Margaret Abe Kuga province said in its news message on Friday that the strike was affecting about 100,000 users of the bus and light railway system in VTA, which suspended all PararatranSit service when the strike was called.
“As the negotiations continue, I hope that both parties can reach a fair and fast decision that gives priority to both workers and the public who depend on these services.”
The Board of Directors announced on Saturday that it will take comments from the public in the call of video conferences before and at the end of the closed meeting.
VTA said the meeting is scheduled to start at 10 am and will be broadcast by zooming.
