ASAN – The Austin Police Administration is seeking general assistance in identifying two wanted suspects in relation to a deadly gunfire that occurred earlier this week near the 35th Highway and East 32 Street, in a press release from the agency.
The officers responded to the shooting Monday around 1:50 am in the 400-North I-35 bloc. When the officers arrived at the scene, they found Rex Johnson, 33, “did not respond” with “phenomenal fire wounds”, according to the police.
Johnson was transferred to a local hospital. He announced his death later around 1:15 pm Thursday, according to the police.
A primary investigation revealed that Johnson was standing next to his friend, who was blind and used cane, when two suspects walked. It is claimed that one of the suspects assaulted Johnson and his roads on the ground. Then, it is claimed that the second suspect shot him, according to the police. Both suspects escaped east of the intersection “immediately after the shooting.”
The first suspect was described by APD as the following:
- Black man
- Slim
- Long black hair
- The last time was seen wearing a white shirt, dark pants and dark shoes
The second suspect was described by APD as the following:
- Black man
- Medium
- The last time was seen wearing a hat and a long shirt for black sleeves, gray pants and white and black shoes.
This twelfth killing of Austin is being investigated in 2025, according to the police.
