Cabanilla said the annual bloc party was supposed to be a happy celebration of the Philippine culture as part of the day of Labu Labu.
Among the 20 parents were at Seattle at the festival. They were participating in dance performance.
Kabanilla and his family were leaving on Saturday when that chaos followed in the sunset area of Vancouver. They did not know that anything was wrong until they received a call. Cabanilla spoke to ABC7 News over the phone what happened.
“Our dance manager called us, saying feverish,” Where are you. Are you safe? Something happened. “It was just a shock.
Cabanilla said that the huge festival was eight blocs and it seems that everything was very safe. It collapsed by crying on the phone as it is struggling to address the cause of the attack.
“I have seen a lot of children on the street. There were many children on the street, and children only eat ice cream, on the shoulders of their parents. That’s all I thought. My children were also wandering. I’m sorry.”
Kabanilla said that everyone in his big group is safe. But he is worried and wondering about the sellers he knew next to Fraser Street, where the attack took place. One seller mentioned in particular.
“It was her kiosk next to the street where the accident was. Yes, I haven’t heard from this seller yet,” Cabanilla said.
The attack on Saturday night is still under investigation. But the police do not believe that the accident was linked to terrorism.
