Denver (KDVR) – The SAFEWAY and Albertsons Companes Union in Coliono decided on Wednesday to end the extension of the current contract, allowing an early strike on Sunday morning.
This step comes in the aftermath of UFCW Local 7 Union members with an overwhelming majority to agree to the strike for unfair work practices, as the union members have repeatedly noticed in the chronic employee employees in stores.
The Union says that Safeway and Albertsons “hold on” with the King Soopers to try to reduce the advantages of health care for workers, saying earlier this week that the company is retracting an agreement to increase salaries and entitlements retroactively, which the Labor Union cited as an unfair labor practice.
“We made this decision very seriously and concluded that after several months of bargaining, Safeway/Albertsons did not provide us with any option but to escalate our contract,” said Ivan Lopez, a worker at the Safeway Distribution Center in Denver. His comments were made in a press press release.
“We have been clear since last fall that we needed them to treat employees, wages at the level of poverty, and to ensure that the advantages of health and pensions are fully funded,” Lopez continued. “Unfortunately, the company responded with unfair labor practices such as refusing to negotiate just workers and threats. The company was unwilling to reach a compromise, and therefore the countdown will now start a possible strike to practice employment.”
I had an agreement to extend the contract, a 72 -hour notice, before its termination, and this notice was submitted on Wednesday at 7:24 pm, and this means that there are no three days until there is no contract in its place and the strike can begin.
The date of an official strike has not been determined.
“Since now, Safeway/Albertsons was holding their supposed competitor and the city market through the workers’ proposal to take concessions on health care and retirement, while continuing to refuse to take meaningful steps to address chronic employees in groceries.” Kim Kordova, UFCW Local 7, said in the Federation’s announcement on Wednesday, against the background of standard profits.
The Federation has repeatedly said that Kulorado groceries are suffering from a shortage of employees, and said it has created an environment in which workers could not feed their families, but also affects consumers. Recently, a report in detail the deceptive pricing practices in grocery stores throughout the United States
Earlier this year, workers at King Soopers were struck for unlawful work practices that lasted for 10 days. The Union said it is pressing Safeway/Albertsons and King Soopers to treat chronic employees, remove discrimination from two levels on a contract leave and treat the premium of the night, which the Federation says is less than the rest of the Colorado labor market.
