Actor and singer Tyrese Gibson turned himself in to authorities on Friday, October 3, 2025, following an incident in which his dogs allegedly killed a neighbor’s pet in his Atlanta community.
Gibson, best known for his role in the Fast and Furious franchise, was booked on a charge of cruelty to animals after an arrest warrant was issued on September 22. The actor was subsequently released, according to jail records.
The tragic incident occurred on September 18 when Gibson’s four cane corso dogs were reportedly seen running loose through the neighborhood. Court documents reveal the animals attacked and killed a 5-year-old Cavalier King Charles spaniel named Henry, who belonged to a nearby resident.
According to the police report, Henry’s owner had let the small dog outside to use the bathroom just after 10 p.m. When he returned five minutes later, he discovered his pet in the driveway near the front door with fatal injuries. The spaniel had sustained separated and broken ribs, puncture wounds, and severe internal bleeding. Security camera footage captured Gibson’s four cane corsos running toward Henry’s home during the time of the attack.
Meanwhile, another resident contacted animal control that same evening, reporting that four cane corsos were blocking her door and preventing her from reaching her vehicle. An animal control officer responded to escort the woman to her car before one of Gibson’s friends collected the dogs.
Days later, when Fulton County police and animal control attempted to have Gibson surrender the four dogs on September 22, he reportedly declined over the phone, requesting additional time to make arrangements. The police report indicates that Gibson “admitted that he believes his dogs killed Henry and that he knows it’s been an ongoing issue over the past few months with his dogs getting out.”
Notably, Gibson had previously received a warning on September 7 regarding his dogs running loose in the neighborhood. Authorities also noted that his dogs had been spotted roaming freely more than five times in recent months.

Gabe Banks, Gibson’s attorney, issued a statement clarifying that the actor was out of town when the attack occurred. “He accepts full responsibility for his dogs,” Banks stated. The attorney confirmed that Gibson has since rehomed two of the dogs and placed three puppies in new homes.
In his own statement posted to Instagram, Gibson expressed his devastation over the incident. “After nearly 40 years of being a passionate dog lover … my dogs have only ever been treated as family. They’ve never been trained to harm, never spent a single day in attack or protection training, and they’ve grown up playing with kids and smaller dogs in my home,” he wrote. “That’s why this incident has left me shocked, devastated, and heartbroken for the family affected.”
Additionally, Gibson received a notice regarding a special permit required for owning more than 10 dogs, though the exact number of animals in his care remains unclear.
