Turning Point USA event prompts protests at UC Berkeley

(KRON) – Protests broke out at UC Berkeley as Turning Point USA held an event on campus two months after the assassination of its founder, Charlie Kirk.

The event, part of the “This is the Turning Point” tour, sparked significant opposition from students and community members, leading to violent clashes and several arrests.

The protests began in the afternoon and continued throughout the evening, with attendees leaving the event in red MAGA hats to cheers and jeers from protesters.

Police forces were present in large numbers to prevent demonstrators from entering the event site.

Tensions rose when police intervened to break up a bloody fight between a man wearing a red Turning Point T-shirt and a protester.

Inside Zellerbach Hall, the event continued as planned, featuring speakers such as comedians Rob Schneider and Joe Bob, who commented on the protests and condemned the violence.

The tour continued despite the assassination of Charlie Kirk at its first stop at Utah Valley University last September, where he was scheduled to headline.

Some students expressed surprise that UC Berkeley, known for its progressive stance, would host such an event. Watch the full report from KRON4’s Sarah Stinson in the video above.
