The big Shaw family mystery is expected to come to a head in the final episodes of season 2 of Tracker. Star and producer Justin Hartley teased what’s brewing for the remainder of the season and whether or not Ashton Show’s killer will be captured or reveal themself.
As for what fans can expect in the final few episodes of season 2, Justin, 48, braced viewers for quite a cinematic experience with more answers to the underlying mystery.
“You are going to get the last five episodes in a row. So, you’re getting five separate sort of movies,” he noted in a Sunday, April 20, interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “We call them little movies. As we’re inching closer to the end of the season, we creep closer and closer to the mystery of what the hell happened to Colter’s father. How did he die? Was there in fact another man in the woods? Did he get pushed; did he get killed? Was it an accident? What the hell is going on with that?”
“I end up with this box that’s been talked about and Dory, my sister (Melissa Roxburgh), brings it to me,” he said. “And now that I have it, does he go through with it? Does he go through with it and open up that box? Does he want to go down that rabbit hole? He gets a lot of clues and a lot of details about what happened to his father, and who was actually involved. And to see the damage I think is an incredible payoff.”
Viewers know that Ashton died when Colter was a child after his parents made the family move off the grid for reasons that have yet to be unveiled. Colter’s older brother, Russell Shaw, played by Jensen Ackles, denied having anything to do with their father’s murder, though he was in the woods the night that he died and stood on a cliff above Ashton’s dead body. Their sister, Dory Shaw, still has a box of their father’s things and it seems like Colter will finally look through the contents of the box to start piecing more of the story together.
We also learned that Colter’s father had some kind of involvement in government work, in addition to being a professor at some point.
“They were both professors at Berkeley till there was this incident with my dad. Not something that gets explained to a kid,” Colter revealed in a previous episode.
Viewers have been given breadcrumbs throughout the episodes about what really happened to Ashton, whether it’s been Colter revealing memories about his childhood after moving off the grid or survival skills he’s learned to help him out in rocky terrain.
It was also confirmed that Dory would be returning in the upcoming episode titled “Rules of the Game.” We can infer that this will be the episode that she and Colter go through the box of stuff, and we’ll likely learn why Dory never told Colter about the box initially. It’s been more than a dozen episodes since he first learned of the existence of the box from pal Lizzy Hawking. It’s about time Colter finally peeks inside!
