Titans Star Gets Brutally Honest About QB Will Levis’ Struggles Last Season

The Tennessee Titans finished 2024 tied for the NFL’s worst record at 3-14. Ten of those losses came with Will Levis at quarterback.

As a result, Tennessee selected Cam Ward with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, with Levis likely returning to a backup role. Recently, one of his Titans teammates appeared on “Bussin’ With The Boys” and opened up about Levis’ struggles in 2024.

Will Levis Was ‘Never a Negative Energy’ Despite Tough 2024 Season

Levis, the 33rd overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, took over for Ryan Tannehill in Week 8 of his rookie season. He didn’t light the league on fire in his nine starts, throwing for 1,808 yards, eight touchdowns, and four interceptions, but he gave the Titans a spark during a lost year.

Levis entered 2024 as the starter under new head coach Brian Callahan. The season began, however, with three straight losses and an AC joint injury in Week 4. Mason Rudolph stepped in and led the Titans to their first win of the year. Levis returned the following week, only to miss the next three games after re-aggravating the injury.

Rudolph went 1-2 during that stretch, and Levis returned in Week 10. The Titans won just one more game with him under center, bringing his career record to 5-16. Levis threw for 2,091 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions last season, and Tennessee essentially moved on by drafting Ward.

Titans offensive tackle JC Latham, the team’s first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, was selected to protect Levis but ended up enduring a rocky rookie season of his own. The Alabama product came from a powerhouse program and switched from right to left tackle upon arriving in the NFL. He started all 17 games, giving him a firsthand look at how Levis handled a difficult year.

Latham joined former Titans’ Will Compton and Taylor Lewan on a recent episode of “Bussin’ With The Boys.” The group discussed Latham’s Alabama days, playing under offensive line coach Bill Callahan, and how much the Titans and Levis struggled in 2024.

Lewan asked about Levis’ mindset as the season spiraled, and what Latham saw from his quarterback through it all. Latham replied, “I stayed connected with him since I got there. He did a good job trying to block out the outside noise, and I remember he told me he’d be around his family a lot, and that helped for sure.

“I think the hardest part for him was, I remember the win we got against the Dolphins happened with [Mason] Rudolph. Looking at that, I can only imagine if I’m 0-3 and I’m the head guy of the team, and I get hurt, and the backup wins the game. I can only imagine how that would make me feel.

“I knew what he was going through, and he was trying to fight his way through it all. He was trying to be that life for our team — to make that extra play — and sometimes it would cost us. But he was never a negative energy in the building. He always had his head up and was always working to be better… He would always be the last guy there, watching film with his coach, figuring out what he could execute better.

“The effort and the energy from everybody was there. He always did his part to always just try to do better.”

Barring an injury to Ward, Levis’ time as Tennessee’s starting quarterback appears to be over. He’s projected as the backup in 2025, and the Titans would likely explore trade options if there were a market.

Ward led all of FBS with 39 touchdown passes last season, throwing for 4,313 yards and just seven interceptions. He is the future of Titans football. It’s a tough ending for Levis in Tennessee, but if Latham’s words are any indication, he’ll remain a great teammate.
