ASAN – The Defense Committee of the Laws of Texas agreed last week on more than $ 1.7 million in a new improvement grant aimed at expanding the scope of access to mental health defense services and “enhancing the ability of the general defender” in Hayes County, according to a TIDC journalist.
“These grants are an important step in strengthening public defense throughout Texas, especially in rural areas and customers with mental health needs,” Skout Elers, CEO of TIDC, said in the statement. “We are grateful to our partners in our society who lead these efforts.”
TIDC approved four main grants for four provinces, as stipulated in the committee below:
- Atascosa Province received $ 200200, which will help employees in the new mental health court with a lawyer and social worker. They will be able to “serve customer with mental illnesses in the face of violent felony.”
- Hays County received $ 410,083 “to add a dedicated mental health team to the Defender office in Hays County.”
- The city province was awarded 362,549 dollars “to expand the ability of the regional defender of Hill Country.”
- Polk Province was granted $ 760,607 to create the new public defender’s office. This includes the team “Four Lawyers and two employees.”
According to the committee, 10 million dollars were saved through the Legislative Authority of Texas.
“The qualified uses include, but not limited to, the needy training and the destitute defenses, the support of employment, training, equipment, and reducing the requirements of the conformity fund for the provinces,” said Tick.
Moreover, a total of $ 3,499,181 was granted from TIDC Council to Atascosa, Bee, Burnet, Culberson, Hale, MAVERICK, Medina, Potter, Tom Green and Victoria. In addition, Texas University Law College of Technology and Caprok Regional Office was also awarded under the program, according to TIDC.
