The Conners is officially saying goodbye with a two-part farewell on ABC. The cast will make their final appearance as the characters we’ve all come to know and love in the season 7 series finale. Closer shares everything to know about the show’s upcoming final episodes and what to expect.
The Plot of ‘The Conners’ Series Finale Has Been Revealed
The show’s finale is two parts. The summary for season 7, episode 5, titled “Exercise Bands, Money Plans, and Faraway Lands” says, “Ahead of the deposition, Dan gets support from Jackie, Becky and Darlene. Mark is presented with an opportunity which leads to a major life decision. Meanwhile, Becky and Tyler consider the next step in their relationship – joint finances.”
The second part, season 7, episode 6, is called “The Truck Stops Here.” According to the official logline provided by ABC, “Jackie prepares for a series of physical tests in an effort to rejoin the police force; Darlene confronts the insecurities in her marriage with Ben; Dan’s deposition stirs up feelings, and final farewells are made in true Conner family fashion.”
Who Will Be in ‘The Conners’ Series Finale?
John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Alicia Goranson, Ames McNamara, Emma Kenney, Sara Gilbert and Jay R. Ferguson are all slated to appear in the show’s final episode, per IMDb.
It was previously announced that Johnny Galecki, Michael Fishman and Estelle Parsons would not be returning for season 7.
“[David is] very much mentioned, very much alive in the story,” executive producer Bruce Helford told TVLine in March 2025. “We love Johnny, he was always welcome, but he has more or less started life anew down in Nashville [following the conclusion of The Big Bang Theory].”
He said that fans of the show would understand why the characters were cut as the program’s final six episodes played out.
“Honestly, once you see the arcs [you will understand],” he said. “What we never want to do is just bring somebody in just to see that person on the show. We want everyone to have something important to play.”
When Is ‘The Conners’ Series Finale?
The series finale of The Conners will air on April 23, 2025, with season 7, episode 5, airing at 8 p.m. ET, and season 7, episode 6, airing immediately after at 8:30 ET on ABC.
‘The Conners’ Cast Has Spoken Out About the Show’s Final Season
It wasn’t easy for the cast to wave farewell to the characters they’ve played for so many years on TV.
“Honestly, I couldn’t wrap my head around it,” Sara said in an April 2025 interview with the Los Angeles Times. “I would have grief, but then it would switch to this feeling that I couldn’t ground myself in the idea that it was over. It felt surreal. Laurie and I talk about it still. I think we can’t fully grasp that it’s over because it was such a part of our routine for so many years.”
“I think we all felt, cast and crew, very fragile during the last taping,” Laurie admitted. “We’d been together for decades and this was the end. I was having a ‘magical thinking’ experience and was convinced we’d all be back on the set on Monday like always. It’s taken a long time to process.”
While the final season of the show only consists of six episodes, Sara said she was satisfied with the ending.
“I’m happy with what we have,” she said. “We could have taken a full season to do it but, that said, there was something nice about working in this smaller framework, almost like a limited series. We did take one idea and weave it throughout the six episodes in a way that would have been different in a longer season.”
Bruce opened up about what to expect in the final episode, saying, “The final episode is a very big thing for us. The whole thing started with legacy fixing, and so we really do believe that this now has the proper end to it. And we broke some rule.”
