Teyana Taylor pulled out all the stops to celebrate her youngest daughter, Rue-Rose, turning five yesterday.
The multi-hyphenate star hosted her annual “Ruechella”-themed party, complete with carnival rides, Hello Kitty–meets-Coachella decor, palm tree cutouts, and a towering cake that matched the theme.
Taylor gave fans a peek at the festivities on Instagram Sunday, sharing sweet snaps of Rue alongside her big sister, Iman “Junie” Tayla, 9.
“High fiveeeeeee, Rue-Rose just turned fiveeeeeee. The sweetest honor of my life is being your mommy,” she captioned her post. “Thank you for filling my world with the sweetest love. My heart will always sway to the soft rhythm of your little drums. I love you more than words can ever say. Happy 5th Birthday babygirl!”
Taylor shares Rue-Rose and her older daughter, Iman “Junie” Tayla, 9, with her estranged husband, former NBA player Iman Shumpert.
In a recent interview with The Breakfast Club, the singer, actress, and director reflected on her experience raising her girls alongside Shumpert.
“Co-parenting is a little tough because when things are going too good, someone [can] make that go real bad,” she said, adding that her goal is to keep things peaceful.
To avoid conflict, Taylor revealed that she and Shumpert rely on the Talking Parents app to keep communication strictly about their daughters.
“It controls your tone. It controls whatever it is. At this point, if it doesn’t have anything to do with the kids, we don’t have anything to talk about,” she explained.
Even with ups and downs, Teyana says she always makes an effort to include Shumpert in their daughters’ milestones.
“I always reach out to him. I’m like, ‘Yo, I’m doing Junie’s birthday. I’m doing Rue’s birthday. Would you like us to do it together?’ And he’s like, ‘Nah, I’m good.’ I don’t entertain the shots that are being thrown. Here’s the invite. If you want to pop in, cool,” she shared.
In case you are wondering, Shumpert was not in attendance at the party.
