Texas to create response team to combat New World screwworms

ASAN (KXAN) – On Wednesday, the governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, and two actions to assemble a response team to combat new global code, which pose a serious threat to Texas livestock and wildlife.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the new global spiral worms are a type of fly larvae that feeds on the body of warm blood.

In a press release, Abbott said: “The task of the response team is clear: to lead the protection and response efforts to Texas and ensure that Texas is still aware, prepared and compatible to prevent the return of this devastating parasite.”

Parks and Wildlife Division in Texas (TPWD) and the Tahc Animal Committee (Tahc) is responsible for creating a new screw response team in Texas.

“As a border state, Texas represents the first line of defense against the possible return of this harmful scourge in the United States,” Abbott wrote in a letter to TPWD and Tahc. “Texas played a decisive role in eliminating this scourge of the United States in the 1960s and will do so again if the need arises.”

US Agricultural Commissioner Brock Rollins recently announced a multinational program to stop the spread of spiral worms.

The United States planned to invest 8.5 million dollars on the site of Qut from the More Air Force Base and 20 million dollars in a Mexico facility that produces sterile spiral worms. Insects will then be launched by aircraft over Mexico to prevent them from coming to the United States
