Texas lawmakers pass camp safety bills following flooding

Austin – The batch to save lives after the deadly floods in the center of Texas was a priority for the Texas project on Thursday.

Texas discussed the House of Representatives and the Senate and eventually issued draft laws that would implement new safety standards for youth camps.

One of these bills was House Law 1The deputy in Texas Drew Darbi, R. San Angelo, has identified the new safety guidelines for youth camps.

The Senate SB 1, which also dealt with safety requirements in youth camps. It would prevent the license of some camps in the plains of floods, unless the cabin in the plains of the flood is connected to a lake, a pool, or other aqueous body. It will also require specific evacuation plans for those cabins. The Senate was postponed after this bill was passed and will return to Friday morning.

“This is the members. This is Bill for the sky 27,” Darby said in the house room hall. “The camp failed in these girls. The boycott failed. The river authority failed. In a greater sense, their government failed for them.”

HB 1 included creating a detailed emergency plan that covers natural disasters, fires, aquatic emergency and more. The draft law made some concerns of the MP of Texas Kodi Vasoton, R-ANGLETON, who felt that the language that uses the “flood plains” needs to change to “FloodWays”.

Vasot said: “There is a difference in the risk profile between a camp located on a flooding road from a camp that is in the plains of the flood.” “About 20 % of Texas is in the plains of floods, including most of the coast, and there are many camps in the coast, which none of which will be able to work anymore, if we prohibit a cabin in the flood plains.”

According to Fema, the flood plains are any area that can be covered with flood water from any source. The flooding corridor is a specific part of the flood plains – and at the head of the river channel and the neighboring lands – it must remain unbearable to allow the flood water to flow freely without raising the levels of water towards the source.

The language did not change, and the House 1 draft passed by a majority.

On Thursday evening, the Senate rushed to discuss the safety legislation of other youth camp. Lieutenant Dan Patrick gave an emotional message to the families who gave birth to children who died in the floods in the Mestic camp.

“I can tell you that it is on the basis of the two parties,” Patrick said. “The members of this floor and there are the Senate here to take action so that this does not happen again,” Patrick said. “Our words will never be sufficient, but our commitment to the 27 families that we hope will be the best we can do in these difficult times to help you move on the front.”
