String of sexual battery assaults targeting joggers, walkers: Richmond PD

(Kron) – The Richmond Police Department urges the community to be alert because it is investigating a recent series of attacks on the sexual battery.

RPD said the attacks targeted people who were involved in the famous run or walking paths – practicing alone – during the day and early evening hours. Richmond police said that some incidents occurred in the Richmond tunnel and Keeler Beach.

Investigators said that the suspect is described as a black man whose length ranges between 5 feet and 7 inches to 6 feet, and between the ages of 40 to 50 years with an average building.

Richmond police require the residents to take the following precautions when exercising abroad:

  • Stay on alert: avoid deviations like loud music through headphones. Be aware of your surroundings at all times.
  • Don’t go alone: running or walking with a partner or in a group whenever possible.
  • Choose well -lit areas: stick to populated paths, and avoid isolated or enlarged areas, especially during dusk or dawn.
  • Change your routine: Avoid following the same path or schedule every day.
  • Carry a whistle or personal alarm: this can quickly draw attention in the event of an emergency.
  • Trust in your instincts: If there is something, leave the area and report any suspicious activity immediately.

The Richmond Police Department mentions the public to report suspicious activity in the Richmond Point area by calling the number 911 or a non-emergency line on (510) 233-1214.
