Stolen vehicle pursuit ends as car crashes into Victorville ditch: SBSD

A Barsto man stands behind bars after a stolen car crashed into a trench while trying to evade the San Bernardino Province Department on Monday evening.

The Sherif Administration said in press release Their helicopter learned a vehicle, which was stolen from Villan, near La Mesa and Aqueduct Roads, around 5:45 pm on Monday.

Officials said that the driver of that car, Jason Mitchell, 37, refused to surrender to stop traffic and drove the deputies in a chase that ended when it was crashed into a trench in Victorville.

“Then Mitchell escaped from the car on foot, but he was quickly arrested by the deputies,” the statement added.

The Ministry of Sherif said that Mitchell faces the charges of stealing vehicles, possessing a stolen vehicle and not returning.

The prison records do not include failure to obtain a charge, and replace them with two charges: running away from the police recklessly and evading a wrong driver.

Mitchell is being held at the High Desert Retention Center instead of $ 50,000 on bail, and is scheduled to appear before the court on Wednesday morning.
