STEPHEN CURRY AND AYESHA CURRY ATTEND GOAT PRIVATE SCREENING WITH THEIR KIDS

Stephen Curry attended the Oakland screening of Goat at the historic Grand Lake Theatre alongside his wife, Ayesha Curry, and their four children, Riley, Ryan, Canon and Caius.

The Golden State Warriors star serves as a producer and also lends his voice to a character in the Sony Pictures Animation film, which opens in theaters Friday, Feb. 13. Ayesha Curry is part of the voice cast as well.

“Basketball has opened a lot of doors,” Curry told the Chronicle. “I don’t even want to limit myself on what’s possible down the road, but I’ve had a good experience so far in all of those different roles. It’s all about the right project and the right team that you work with, and I think we’ve checked the box on that with every project that we’ve done. That’s the strategy moving forward, whether that’s behind the camera or in front of it.”

Co-directed by Adam Rosette and Tyree Dillihay, the film has been in development for seven years, dating back to the founding of Curry’s production company, Unanimous Media. Set in the animal kingdom and centered on a basketball-inspired sport called “roarball,” the story follows an underdog journey.

Curry voices Lenny, a giraffe in a supporting role. The cast also includes David Harbour, Patton Oswalt, Jelly Roll, Jennifer Hudson, Gabrielle Union, Dwyane Wade, Kevin Love, Angel Reese and A’ja Wilson.

Stephen Curry said the project stood out to him because it features a range of characters that children can easily connect with.

“It’s got a lot of energy, a lot of comedy, a lot of action,” he explained. “But the idea is to remind yourself to dream big, surround yourself with people who believe in you. I think we all — in some way, shape or form — can resonate with that. But once you see the movie, I think you’ll resonate with a specific character that will speak to maybe your personality and your perspective.”
