Speed cameras coming to another Weld County town

DENVER (KDVR) — Speed cameras have become a popular tool for law enforcement across the state, and another city is being added to the list of cities that have traffic enforcement cameras.

Eaton, just north of Greeley, which recently installed speed cameras, began a 30-day warning period for radar speed cameras on Nov. 1.

The Automatic Vehicle Identification System cameras will be activated on December 1, the police department said in a press conference Posted on Facebook Monday.

Police said cameras will be located along the following roads:

  • Northbound and southbound lanes of Oak Street (Interstate 85) from 10th Street to Colorado Parkway
  • The eastbound and westbound lanes of Collins Street (WCR 74) from Fall Line Road (WCR35) to Christensen Street (WCR 39)
  • The northbound and southbound lanes of Fall Line Road (WCR 35) from Third Street to Benjamin Drive
  • Northbound and southbound lanes of Christensen Street (WCR 39) from Hawkstone Drive to WCR 72
  • The eastbound and westbound lanes of East 10th Street from Oak Avenue (Interstate 85) to WCR 39

While speed cameras have become a common sight across the state, the Eaton Police Department said it will begin deploying them differently than most municipalities.

The department said it will begin with a manual deployment phase, and sworn police officers will be physically present at each site to operate and monitor the equipment.

“This hybrid approach emphasizes technological precision and human oversight as the community and department adapt to the new enforcement tool,” the police department said.

Signs will be placed on roads where cameras are in use at least 300 feet in advance to warn drivers. Violations will be documented and a notice mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle.

Speed radar camera citations do not affect driving records. More information can be found at Police Department website.
