Sonequa Martin-Green is gearing up for her next big TV role, and fans cannot wait to see her in action! The Walking Dead alum was cast in the Blue Bloods offshoot series, Boston Blue, which will be airing this fall on CBS.
Sonequa, 40, reflected on the casting news in an Instagram post shared on Tuesday, May 13.
“And then the page turned and I said, ‘Wow Lord for real?!’” she captioned a post featuring a photo with costar Donnie Wahlberg as well as screenshots of articles about her Boston Blue casting. “Grateful to be back in the @cbstv family. Honored to step into another beloved television legacy and make something new. Really excited for what God will do through this. Alright @donniewahlberg let’s go my friend!”
Sonequa’s fans were thrilled to hear about her newest opportunity, carrying on the Blue Bloods legacy after the show ended in December 2024.
“Well Deserved. You’re phenomenal at your craft. Can’t wait to see you flourish in this new role!” one person commented underneath the Star Trek: Discovery alum’s post. She was part of Star Trek: Discovery from 2017 to 2024 on CBS’ streaming service, Paramount+.
“Congratulations! So happy for you!” another person wrote, while another said, “BEANTOWN she’s coming! Very excited to see you running around in these streets shooting scenes.”
Boston Blue is set to begin filming in Boston, Donnie’s hometown, this summer.
“Congrats, Sonequa!!! You deserve all great things and success!” another fan wrote, as another person said, “We are SO excited for what is to come. Let’s Go!!!!! #BostonBlue.”
“So excited for this!!!! You & @donniewahlberg are going to be amazing,” another wrote. “Let’s Go!!!! #BostonBlue.”
“I’ve been waiting patiently for your next role! Can’t wait to see you SLAYYYYY!” said another.
“This is EXCITING! Blue Bloods is one of my all time favorite shows!” someone else said.
In the upcoming drama series, Sonequa will be portraying Lena Peters, Danny Reagan’s partner at the Boston PD. Like Danny, Lena comes from a law enforcement family, so we’re expecting the characters to have a lot in common.
“We love the Reagans. We have all loved the Reagans for so long,” she said during a CBS press conference. “And I feel that we’ll love the Peters too. I’m super excited for this partnership, and to be back in a CBS family — and in this family, your family. It means a lot, and I’m grateful for it. I think we’re going to have a good time.”
Donnie, 55, agreed, highlighting how important it is for him to keep the Reagan family legacy alive in the series expansion.
“One thing about Blue Bloods and how beloved it was is because there are so many law enforcement families in this country. There’s not just the Reagans,” he said. “They’re in every state, every city, every town, everywhere, and there are other families around that have stories to tell too. Danny’s story will continue the Reagan family. You can’t have Danny without Reagans — there’ll be connective tissue. But we’re also going to get to discover a new family and and carry on the tradition of telling their stories.”
