'Something needs to be done': Aurora honors 12-year-old boy hit, killed

Aurora, Colorado (KDVR)-Community members are concerned about safety after a 12-year-old boy was injured and motorbike kills in a cross corridor.

Messages, flowers, balloons and gifts are now part of a memorial as a 12 -year -old boy ride a scooter through a cross corridor on East Elve Street near South Will Park Circle.

“It was a beautiful spirit,” said Gary Armstrong. “It was a beautiful soul, full of good energy. I love learning about the world and everything. My wife and me. We formed children on a field trip on the school day.”

The son of Armstrong was a friend of killing on Saturday. Share boys pictures on a field trip.

“It is very difficult. My son called to try to play the game with him because they played PlayStation together all the time and unfortunately, I told his mother my son who knows a kind of tragedy,” said Moriastrong.

On Saturday, the Aurora Police Department stated that after 10 am, the 12 -year -old was riding his bike on the crossway.

Police says a 19 -year -old driver in a car claiming that he did not notice and did not stop the stimulant transit sign, which hit the boy’s driver. Police said that the 12 -year -old boy died later on that night.

“They are racing here as NASCAR,” said Armstrongs. “If you go here on the stop lamp, even if the light is flashing, they are accelerating in the light. There is no consideration for the children who will come.”

“It must be done, and this is very close,” said Alice Hayes, a community member.

Hayes visited the memorial on Tuesday after hearing what happened. Fox31 told her niece’s daughter in the same intersection two years ago, and her neck fell when someone crashed while riding her bike.

“I survived, but the car, the man said he did not see it, and she came here,” Hayes pointed to the intersection while explaining it. “It has ended here. These locomotives are in my heart. Something should be done.”

“I plan to bring her in the next city council,” said Daniel Gornsky, a member of the Aurora City Council. “I plan to bring it at the next public safety meeting. I plan to get a societal event. I have completely planned not to allow this child’s life and hero.”

Jurinsky met with the boy’s family and community members concerned in the memorial on Tuesday.

“Everyone deserves to be safe and I want to do something,” Gurinski said. “Obviously, it is time to do something. This garden behind us is called Wheel Park. It attracts children specifically. We need to make sure these streets cross are safe.”

Aurora Police addressed this incident at a press conference on Tuesday. They talked about the proactive implementation of the administration to try to prevent tragedies such as the last deadly accidents during the weekend.

“Last week, we did our work as we enforced it along the entire corridor from the rooms and also along the entire Mississippi Corridor and we wrote approximately 80 calls during that operation,” said Lieutenant Chris Amsler, the commander of the Urra Police Department, Aurora Police Department. “Our motorcycle enforcement team, a group of officers who are their only duty is to enforce proactive traffic in the city, as they focus in the areas where we have a large size of accidents and complaints.”

Fox31 continues to the city of Aurora to ask whether it is its public works administration or will be looking to make changes in the area where the boy was injured.

We received the following statement from a spokesman for the city of Aurora:

“Aurora and the Aurora Police Department offer deep condolences to the family affected by the end of this week. We will continue their support because they are sad for this unimaginable loss.

We recognize all the fears that arise in the aftermath of such tragic incidents such as these. Although anti -safety measures are already present, we will continue to explore potential additional options to increase safety strengthening.

Safe driving is a shared responsibility. Every person behind the wheel faces the duty to stay at a state of alert, eliminate deviations, and take responsible options not only protect themselves, but everyone around them.

Our officers continue to conduct a proactive enforcement, with a focus on the specific fields through disruption and community concerns. We urge all drivers to put their phones down, continue to focus on the road, and follow the traffic laws. Decisions taken while driving can have permanent consequences and change life. “

Amler said that the motorcycle enforcement team is implementing a routine on the ILIFAF corridor. He said they are getting out of the application in the area after the deadly accident during the weekend.

“You know, I only have a handful of officers, and we cannot do much about it,” Amsler said. “That is why I was going out here today with this message not only our responsibility, but also the audience’s responsibility for driving safely.”
