Shedeur Sanders’s unprecedented slide in the 2025 NFL Draft ended when the Cleveland Browns selected him with the 144th overall pick. Sanders promised to inspire local kids in whichever city he was drafted to, and he’s been keeping that promise since arriving in Cleveland.
Shedeur Sanders Keeps Promise, Shows Up at Local Cleveland High School
Sanders endured arguably the most precipitous fall in NFL Draft history. He was in the conversation to be drafted with the No. 1 overall pick, but saw his draft stock do nothing but fall after the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine.
He balled out in his final college season at Colorado, throwing for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns in 2024, but questions remained about his arm strength and athleticism. Then, concerns about his attitude and some poor pre-draft interviews didn’t help. Most pundits thought those questions could cause him to fall outside the top 10, but nobody saw a fifth-round slide coming.
The Browns finally gave Sanders a home, and he quickly became the league’s top-selling rookie jersey. Find his jersey information here.
Sanders has vowed to inspire local kids upon getting drafted, and he has already made good on that vow by visiting John Marshall High School in Cleveland. That wasn’t the only school he visited before the Browns’ rookie minicamp begins.
Colorado football fan account @SkoBuffsGoBuffs tweeted a video of Sanders arriving at a local Cleveland high school. He had promised the Berea-Midpark football team he’d visit them during one of their workouts. Sanders kept that promise.

The tweet read, “Cleveland fans pulled up to Shedeur Sanders workout last week and asked if he could come visit them at School Shedeur Sanders surprised them at School today.”
The video showed Sanders arriving at Berea-Midpark and walking through the Titans’ weight room as the football team worked out. One of the players appeared to talk himself up to Sanders as the rest of the team smiled.
Browns insider Brad Stainbrook also reported on Sanders’s visit.
When #Browns QB Shedeur Sanders visited a local high school in Cleveland shortly after being drafted, members of a football team asked Sanders if he’d visit for a workout.
Today, I’m told Sanders delivered on that request and spent time with the Berea- MidPark football team. pic.twitter.com/ElSxjxk0pe

Stainbrook tweeted a video of Sanders taking a photo with the Berea-Midpark players. He said, “When #Browns QB Shedeur Sanders visited a local high school in Cleveland shortly after being drafted, members of a football team asked Sanders if he’d visit for a workout. Today, I’m told Sanders delivered on that request and spent time with the Berea-MidPark football team.”
This is a great move by Sanders to create some good PR after enduring months of negative press. He’ll have to prove himself on the field, but if he keeps holding up his promises to the kids around Cleveland, he’ll prove that he’s more than just a football player.
