Shedeur Sanders Sends Powerful Message to Browns Fans About Cleveland’s Future Ahead of Rookie Season

The Cleveland Browns were the team that drafted a falling Shedeur Sanders in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft and there was a lot of fanfare along with the pick. The team also drafted Dillon Gabriel and there is going to be a quarterback battle in the ‘Dawg Pound’ as Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett are also looking to be a starter.

Sanders has been particularly quiet since the draft as he has seemingly been focusing on making the roster and becoming the team’s next starting quarterback for Week 1. However, he was interviewed on May 12 and had one of his first public comments. What did he say and what does it mean for Cleveland?

Shedeur Sanders Discusses Potentially Becoming the Browns’ Starting QB

Cleveland is going to have to make a decision as they look to find a starting quarterback between the players on their roster. While being interviewed by Browns’ Color Analyst and ESPN Cleveland reporter Nathan Zegura asked Sanders if he is the quarterback to turn things around for the franchise and the rookie quarterback was confident.

“I’m here to change that, I’m there to give what they want.”

Sanders has been able to make programs better in college as he elevated the Jackson State Tigers before transferring to the Colorado Buffaloes and took them from a 1-9 season to a bowl game in his two seasons there.

He has shown to be a significant force under center as he won the 2024 Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year by completing 353 of 477 (74.0%) of his passes for 4,134 yards with 37 passing touchdowns to 10 interceptions.

Browns Need Consistency

The Browns are looking to figure out the starting quarterback position as they have used 40 different starting quarterbacks since the franchise returned to the NFL in 1999. Sanders and Gabriel are both competing to elevate the Browns as the starting quarterback for the franchise.

Sanders also discussed on Saturday how he is viewing his job during the rookie minicamp and how is not going to try to prove his critics wrong.

“It’s just me versus me. I can’t control any other decision besides that. So I just try to be my best self at all times. … My job here isn’t to prove people wrong. I’m proving myself right.”

The Browns quarterback situation is going to be a talking point for a long time and coach Kevin Stefanski is going to have to make some tough decisions.
