Serial sexual battery suspect arrested in Redwood City

(KRON) – A man who police say is a possible suspect in a series of sexual assault cases was arrested Thursday in Redwood City. According to the Redwood City Police Department, officers arrested the suspect in connection with a sexual assault that occurred near Broadway and Jefferson Avenue at approximately 11:49 a.m.

The victim reported that while she was standing on the southwest corner of Broadway and Jefferson, she was approached by a man on a bicycle, police said. As he passed by, police said he reached out and inappropriately grabbed the victim before heading east toward Jefferson.

Officers canvassed the area, located the subject’s video surveillance and issued a “Be on the lookout” (BOL) to patrol units. Officers found a person matching the description in the 1000 block of Middlefield Road. The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Luis Martinez Maldonado of Redwood City, was contacted and positively identified as being arrested on surveillance video.

Police arrested Maldonado and investigators identified him as a suspect in three recent similar sexual batteries in Redwood City. In each of the cases, which occurred from July 2025 to the present, women were targeted in public spaces.

Maldonado was booked into the San Mateo-Maguire County Correctional Facility on a charge of sexual assault. Redwood City Police believe there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward.
