Sentencing hearing for suspect in deadly Travis Co. fentanyl dealing case

Austin-Louis Gogdrdo will face a judge on Thursday on the death of John Salem, 38. He is accused of manufacturing and/or providing a controlled substance that caused death or serious physical injury.

According to Guajardo’s linear, he sold fake Percocet pills to Salem, and the investigation revealed that the pills contain fentanel.

In May, Gawgardo pledged guilt, but the petition was not part of the guilt acknowledgment. Instead, he chose to give up the part of the guilt and innocence from the trial and instead proceed in the penalty stage. Judge Dina Blasi will listen to the testimony and then determine his punishment.

KXAN will update this story with the continuing court procedures.

John Salem died of fentanel poisoning in 2022.

More about John Salem

“John was the funniest and more friendly she could have ever imagined, the mother of the Great,” said Lippier’s mother, Lippie Bander. “He didn’t care about what I was in life. It was your friend.”

She added that Salem was a university graduate working as a manager for business development. Bandar and her son, Stewart Man, the brother of Salem Al -Akbar, found Salem dead at his home in New Bronfes in 2022.

“I don’t think anyone should find his brother dead, much less at the hands of someone else,” said Stewart Man, brother of Salem Al Akbar.

The family attended the court sessions for about three years, hoping to see the case advanced forward.

Harsh penalties for fentian and manufacturers traders

In 2023, the governor of the state, Greg Abbott, signed a draft law that allowed prosecutors to search for murder charges for fentanel dealers or manufacturers when the recipient dies as a result of the property.

The law entered into force on September 1, 2023. As for the context, the Gogdrdo case occurred before the law entered into force, Habbet happened yet.

The law states that the suspect should know that they are dealing with fentanel for murder.

According to the Guajardo certificate, Guajardo specifically told Salem that the grains that he sold did not contain fentanel.
