((Crohn– Columbus Park in San Jose is almost empty of RVS and tents that were one day filling the area after wiping the city that started nearly two weeks ago.
Despite clearance, the new tents appeared as people looking for housing continued to arrive, as they were drawn with reports of shelter and hotel. About twenty people have arrived in Columbus Park since the survey began.
Bellinda Royal, who came to San Jose from Stockon, became homeless after the death of her mother and seeks any form of housing.
“I heard that there may be help in some housing and I need housing,” Royal said. “I need a hotel.”
San Jose city stated that with continued awareness, they cannot guarantee shelter sites for those who moved to the region after August 18. Once the garden is cleared, it will be settled and set as a “camps zone” in preparation for activation.
In a statement, the city of San Jose said it was “a continuous communication for any new shelter neighbors who move to the vicinity of the site, but we cannot promise that the people who moved to the area after August 18 will have a place in one of our shelters.”
