Despite having played tennis as children, Federer’s two daughters, born in 2009, are yet to show a passion for the sport, as per their father. Talking to PEOPLE earlier this year, the Swiss great clarified that he has “never pushed” his children to love tennis.
“They do play tennis, and we ski, and we’re all learning to golf. We recently tried scuba diving. But the girls were never passionate about tennis, and I was relieved about it,” he said. Federer has another set of twins, boys aged eleven, who have also tried their hands at tennis.
In 2023, Federer revealed that he had sent his twin boys, Leo and Lenny, to Nadal’s training centre after they discovered their love for the sport of tennis.
“Leo is starting to show interest in getting serious about tennis,” the Swiss said just days back.
Federer had once joked about sending all of his 4 kids to train at the Rafa Nadal Tennis Academy. “I really hope one day I can send my kids there and then pick them up a week later and ask them ‘So how was it?’,” The Swiss legend said in a documentary about the Rafa Nadal Academy.”
Nadal later took to Instagram, where he posted pictures alongside Federer, and said he enjoyed spending the morning with his Swiss rival. “Really enjoyed our morning together at the Rafa Nadal Tennis Academy,” the 39-year-old captioned the post.
José Morgado, a noted tennis commentator and analyst from Portugal, also commented on the development, posting a few scenes of Federer’s interactions with the trainees at the Rafa Nadal Academy.

What Rafael Nadal’s Tennis Academy Said About Roger Federer’s Visit to the Facility
The Rafa Nadal Academy described Federer’s visit as a “morning of nostalgia, fond memories, and plenty of sport between two figures who transcended tennis.”
“The Swiss player had the opportunity to experience firsthand the intense activity at the facilities, visiting the children’s training sessions, who have been enjoying themselves on the courts over the past few weeks,” it said, “With his usual kindness, Roger signed autographs, shared fun moments, and accepted photos with the little ones, exciting youngsters taking their first steps in the sport.”
Federer and Nadal maintain a close relationship off the court after leading a golden era on the ATP Tour. Their intense rivalry is widely regarded as one of the greatest in the history of the sport.
The duo met 40 times, with Nadal leading 24–16 in their head-to-head.
