Residents frustrated after rash of car break-ins in Cherry Creek; Denver police respond

Denver (KDVR)-Residents of one of the most high-end Denver neighborhoods say they are tired after a rise in car interruptions, and now, Denver Police responds to questions from Fox31.

People who live in Cherry Creek, including tenants in buildings including GRIFFIS CHERY CREK North, say that their vehicles have been targeted again and again – often inside the walled grooms. Several victims told Fox31 that they had submitted the police reports, but they did not receive any follow -up, which leads to an increasing feeling of frustration and fear.

Denver Joel Bell Police Commander, who oversees District 3, spoke with Fox31 to address community concerns.

“We have increased patrols as soon as we caught our attention to the rash of cars,” Bell said. “It was last Friday.”

However, many residents say they were told that there is little that can be done, and some have been given cases numbers only for insurance purposes.

“I completely understand frustration,” Bell said. “But my greatest fear is not to report a crime. Because not to report it, it does not harm us – we are not able to see a pattern of behavior and when we put the resources in the region.”

Some victims reported that blood or other evidence was left in their cars. When asked if this evidence was collected, Bell said that if the victims were said, he will not be taken, “it was wrong.”

Bell stressed that property crimes such as theft of cars are often difficult to solve – especially without video, witnesses or material evidence. However, urging the residents to continue to report all accidents.

“Some crimes, especially the theft of cars, there are no several times any enforceable elements that the investigator can work on,” Bell explained.

Anyone encouraged questions about their issue to contact the community resources employees directly in the province.

While Cherry Creek’s comprehensive crime has decreased, according to the Denver Police Administration, the theft of cars is the only category that has seen an increase in recent months.

Denver’s police also released a photo of a man who believed to be linked to the last series of breaks. Anyone with information is urged to contact law enforcement.
