Rams Named As Potential Landing Spot for Super Bowl-Winning CB After ‘Missing Out’ on Jalen Ramsey

The Pittsburgh Steelers completed a blockbuster trade for Jalen Ramsey, sending All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and a 2027 fifth-round pick to the Miami Dolphins. The deal also included tight end Jonnu Smith and a 2027 seventh-round pick heading to Pittsburgh.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the Los Angeles Rams were the other team involved in potential trade discussions for the All-Pro corner. While the Steelers landed their target, the Rams continue searching for cornerback upgrades and have emerged as a top landing spot for another former Super Bowl champion.

Rams Target Rasul Douglas After Missing Jalen Ramsey Trade

The Rams’ defense struggled significantly in 2024. Despite Cobie Durant’s steady presence, the unit lacked a lockdown corner. Darious Williams allowed a 101.7 passer rating in coverage last season.

At 32, questions remain about how much Williams has left in the tank. While reuniting with Ramsey would have been ideal, former Philadelphia Eagles corner Rasul Douglas presents a solid alternative.

Bleacher Report’s Matt Holder named Los Angeles one of the top potential landing spots for Douglas. While the 30-year-old may not match Ramsey’s elite level, he still represents significant help for the Rams’ Super Bowl aspirations.

“Head coach Sean McVay made it no secret that he was interested in bringing back Jalen Ramsey, whom the Miami Dolphins recently traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers,” Holder wrote.

“After missing out on the Ramsey sweepstakes, the Rams could still use some help at cornerback as they make another Super Bowl push with the aging Matthew Stafford at quarterback.”

Douglas Could Provide Immediate Upgrade for Los Angeles

Douglas was drafted in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles and carved out a solid starting role before his rough 2024 campaign. He allowed 43 receptions on 59 targets for 518 yards and four touchdowns for a passer rating of 122.00 last season with the Buffalo Bills.

Despite recording 8.8 yards per target allowed, Douglas held opponents to a much better 6.4 yards per target during the previous three seasons combined. His track record suggests the 2024 struggles were an outlier rather than a permanent decline.

The Rams need depth behind Durant, who continues performing at an elite level. Ahkello Witherspoon, who gave up 8.5 yards per target last season, has yet to develop into a reliable starter. Douglas could provide an immediate upgrade in that role.

Adding Douglas would create healthy competition for Witherspoon while giving McVay more options in the secondary. The veteran corner’s experience and previous success make him an attractive target as the Rams aim for another championship run with Stafford under center.
