Pursuit suspect in Southern California surrenders after nuzzling dog

Two people were arrested during a chase in Orange County Thursday night, but not before the alleged driver in the chase grabbed a dog they had in the car.

It’s not clear why the driver or passenger in the car was called, but Sky5 arrested the suspects and deputies with the Orange County Police Department at around 11 p.m.

Aerial footage of the chase through surface streets showed the suspects pulling into a cul-de-sac in the area of Fillmore and Arthur driving into the city of Stanton.

The driver parked the vehicle in the driveway of a home, where the vehicle was quickly surrounded by armed deputies, as well as at least one K-9 unit at the scene.

After a brief confrontation with authorities, the passenger got out of the car first and surrendered. Moments later, the dog was seen sticking its head out the passenger side window.

It appears that authorities ordered the driver to exit through the passenger side window, perhaps because they did not want the suspect’s dog to jump out of the car. Before raising his hands in surrender, the man leaned forward and was seen petting the dog.

Deputies were then seen taking the couple into custody. The dog, which ended up jumping out of the window, was likely turned over to the care of Orange County Animal Control.
