This is truly a high point for High Point. The school is making its first-ever March Madness appearance, earning a berth after its Big South conference tournament win last week.
As for Purdue, this marks its 36th NCAA Tournament appearance. The Boilermakers reached last year’s national championship game but fell to Connecticut.
Purdue enters this afternoon’s Midwest Regional first-round game as a heavy favorite. High Point has had limited experience against top-tier NCAA competition.
Meanwhile, the Boilermakers finished fifth in the Big Ten regular season before falling to Michigan in the conference tournament semifinals.
Keep an eye on Purdue forward Trey Kaufman-Renn, who could have a big game. He’s one of the nation’s top scorers, averaging 20.2 points per game.
He has stepped up in March, averaging 27.7 points over three games, including a 30-point performance in the Big Ten Tournament win over USC last week.
