Athens, Greece– Israeli producer Dana Eden, best known for her co-production of the Emmy Award-winning spy thriller “Tehran,” died suddenly in Greece, the Israeli broadcaster Kan reported Monday.
A Greek police official said that Eden (52 years old) was found dead in a hotel in the Greek capital, Athens, adding that initial indications indicate that she committed suicide and there is no doubt that a crime was committed. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because Greek police do not comment publicly on such cases.
KAN said that Eden was in Greece to film the fourth season of the hit series.
“Dana was among the leading figures in Israel’s television industry and played a central role in creating and leading some of the most prominent and influential productions within the company,” the Kan network said in a statement. The cause of death was not mentioned.
The broadcaster said: “Her professional work, relentless dedication, and love of creativity left a deep mark on the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation. KAN shares in her deep sorrow her family, friends and colleagues.”
In a statement posted on its Facebook page, Eden’s production company, Donna & Shula Productions, sought to refute rumors that the producer had been killed.
She added: “The production company would like to clarify that the rumors about a death with criminal or national motives are false and baseless.”
The production company said: “This is a moment of great pain for family, friends and colleagues. We ask that Dana’s dignity and the privacy of her loved ones be respected.”
Israeli Culture and Sports Minister Miki Zohar said in a social media post on the X website that he received “with great sadness” the news of Eden’s death, describing her as “one of the most prominent and influential producers in the Israeli television industry.”
“Dana left a profound mark on Israeli creativity and brought our story to the international stage with pride, talent and courage,” Zohar said.
“Tehran,” which premiered in Israel and on Apple TV in 2020, tells the story of Tamar Rabinyan, a young Mossad agent tasked with infiltrating an Iranian nuclear reactor and disabling it so the Israeli military can carry out an airstrike. The series won Outstanding Drama Series at the 49th International Emmy Awards in November 2021.
Eden began working in television production in Israel in the 1990s, working on shows including the comedy Yom Haim and the crime drama Magpie, before achieving international success with Tehran.
In 2018, her show “Save Wildlife” won the Best Children’s and Youth TV Magazine award at the Israel Television Academy Awards.
