The Real Housewives of Atlanta star Porsha Williams is moving forward with her divorce from Simon Guobadia — and doing so across continents.

Simon, 61, has officially been deported to his home country of Nigeria after spending months in custody at the Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, Georgia, following his arrest by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in February. A friend of the businessman confirmed his removal to Us Weekly, sharing that he’s in “good spirits” despite the “rough experience” at the detention facility.

Simon was in good spirits,” said Tai Savet, a friend of the entrepreneur, in a statement published June 10.

He also revealed Simon is hoping to secure a meeting with President Donald Trump, 78, now that he has returned overseas.

Simon, who first arrived in the U.S. in 1982, reportedly overstayed his visa on more than one occasion, preventing him from securing U.S. citizenship. Following his deportation, he is no longer listed in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s detainee database. He has since launched a line of T-shirts to support others impacted by ICE custody.

While Simon continues his legal separation from Porsha, 43, proceedings will now take place via video conferencing. Porsha filed for divorce in February 2024 after just 15 months of marriage, but the case has faced multiple delays — many tied to Simon’s detention.

With a court hearing set for June 11, the former couple is expected to appear remotely as they battle over the terms of their prenuptial agreement and their shared marital home.

“The motion to enforce the Prenuptial Agreement is a substantive motion that requires findings of fact by this Court,” Simon’s legal team stated in court documents. “The outcome of the motion will also have a substantial effect on how the remainder of the divorce case proceeds, as it may be dispositive of some of the issues and result in litigation on others.”

Porsha has also asked the court to permit her virtual participation in future proceedings. Her attorney cited professional obligations and ongoing financial strain as a result of Simon’s alleged failure to uphold financial responsibilities laid out in a temporary order.

“[Williams] is a well-known reality television personality, a career in which last-minute travel and unexpected opportunities frequently arise,” her legal team explained.

They continued: “[Williams] shows that this employment opportunity would help [Williams] offset the numerous financial obligations that [Guobadia] has failed to maintain under the Temporary Order, as well as to offset the significant legal expenses [Williams] has already incurred in pursuing enforcement of the parties’ Prenuptial Agreement and defending herself against [Guobadia] as it relates to the instant divorce action.”

The court filing also emphasized that Porsha’s request to appear virtually was made in good faith and not intended to delay the process. “It reflects a balancing of her professional obligations and the serious nature of these proceedings,” her attorney added.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta season 16 airs Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Bravo.
