Liu, Pope Francis, had long set out against the arms industry and the spread of weapons wars, which led to the accuracy of arms manufacturers as “death dealers.” During his 2015 historic speech to the US Congress, the Argentine Pope asked the legislators about the reason for selling purely weapons to kill.
Francis said at the time: “Unfortunately, the answer, as we all know, is simply for the money: the blood -soaked money, often innocent blood,” said Francis at the time. “In the face of this shameful and guilty silence, it is our duty to face the problem and stop the arms trade.”
Liu opened his appeal on Sunday by calling for an immediate cessation in Ukraine and “serious commitment to dialogue” from the two warring sides.
“It is time to abandon those responsible for the logic of weapons and take the path of negotiations and peace, with the support of the international community,” he said. “The sound of weapons must be silent, while the voice of brotherhood and justice must rise.”
