(KRON) – Union City police have launched an attempted kidnapping investigation after a man grabbed an 11-year-old girl on her way to school.
The girl was riding her scooter to Itliong-Vera Cruz Middle School around 8 a.m. on Wednesday. When the girl arrived in the area of Dyer Street and Meteor Drive, a masked man suddenly approached, grabbed the girl’s hood and tried to pull her away, police said.
The Itliong-Vera Cruz Middle School student managed to escape. “The victim was able to escape. The victim notified school personnel, who immediately notified the Union City Police Department,” police wrote.
“The victim was not injured, and the suspect’s intent remains unknown at this time,” UCPD wrote.
Police said the man was described as tall and heavy built. He was wearing a black jacket with his hood pulled up and a mask covering his face.
Union City Police officers are canvassing the area and reviewing possible surveillance footage.
