Iga Świątek’s Poland will play ther third successive United Cup final and standing between them and the trophy is Switzerland. Both teams booked their place in the title clash with 2-1 wins in their respective semifinal matches, with Poland beating defending champions USA while Switzerland triumphed over Belgium.
The Poles won both their group matches against Germany and Netherlands, and booked their place in the semifinals with a 2-1 victory over Australia. Here, they faced USA in what was a rematch of last year’s United Cup final, and took the lead after Hubert Hurkacz beat Taylor Fritz 7-6(1), 7-6(2).
Coco Gauff then beat Iga Świątek 6-4, 6-2 to level things for the Americans, and a mixed doubles fixture took place. Here, Katarzyna Kawa and Jan Zieliński stepped up for Poland as they triumphed 7-6(5), 7-6(3) over Gauff and Christian Harrison to send them to their third successive United Cup final.
Switzerland also won both of their group fixtures, beating Italy and France, and set up a quarterfinal clash with Argentina. They won 2-1 and were next up against Belgium. The score was 1-1 after two tight singles matches that saw Belinda Bencic beating Elise Mertens (6-3, 4-6, 7-6(0)) and Zizou Bergs triumphing 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-3 over Stan Wawrinka.
Bencic and Jakub Paul then beat Mertens and Bergs 6-3, 0-6 [10-5] to see Switzerland through to their maiden United Cup final.

Świątek and Bencic will lock horns in the women’s singles fixture and the Pole will be heavily favored to come out on top as she has a 6-1 head-to-head against the Swiss and dropped only two games against her in their last encounter that came in the Wimbledon semifinals.
Next up, will be Hurkacz vs Wawrinka, a fixture that will take place for the first time since the 2023 United Cup. The World No. 83 has had a promising return to tennis after his injury issues and he will be expected to beat Wawrinka, although it won’t be easy as the former World No. 3 has produced some resilient displays of tennis over the past few days.
Poland’s singles stars should manage to see them through and seal that United Cup win that has been eluding them for quite some time now.
