Officers believe some protestors tried to make Molotov cocktails during anti-ICE protest

KDVR-Police says 18 people were arrested during anti-migration and customs protests that started in the Capitol building on Tuesday.

Police records indicate that the officers believe that some demonstrators were trying to make Molotov cocktails. Police arrest records show that people were arrested because of the obstruction of the road, among other things, the failure to obey a legal matter, writings, and second -degree assault on an officer.

The protest was mostly peaceful, according to Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas.

“I am disappointed, though, that there are instigators in the crowd who really wanted to try to crush the police and create dangerous positions for society,” said Thomas.

Tensions grew when the crowd left the Capitol lands and headed towards Broadway and Trabos 25.

There was concern that the demonstrators were walking on the highway.

“Our first tactics was to use smoke as a deterrent and tell them that we are serious. We do not want to continue the activity in which you participate now. This was effective in obtaining a number of people to leave the area and stop their attempts to reach the highway,” Thomas said.

The crowds in Colorado were protesting the ice raids that occur in Los Angeles and through the United States, their spokesman said they wanted to show their support for the demonstrators in California.

In one case, detention records show that the protester scratched an officer, which led to the charge of the attack.

“They will be the cases that we will see more attention from public prosecutors and courts regarding the download of responsible individuals,” said Christopher Decker, legal analyst for Fox31.

DPD said that pepper balls were also fired on the ground to create a deterrent and dismantle the crowds. Fox31 was told that many of the tactics that were used during the protest on Tuesday night were implemented after George Floyd’s protests in 2020.
