(Kron)-OEA announced on Wednesday that it had reached an agreement with the Unified Auckland Province, as it avoided a one-day blow to Thursday. According to the teachers, the agreement recovers the discounts that are necessary to maintain more than 120 high school school teachers in the “most difficult employees” schools in the province.
OEA said these schools include CastleMont, Fremont and McClyMonds. The deal also regains alternative teachers who depend on the site and who provide coverage and support in the daily classrooms in schools.
“This result reflects the strength of teachers who stand together against the harmful discounts of our goal of maintaining experienced teachers in the most severe classroom in Auckland,” said Kampala Tae Ranniter, President of Oea. “We fought to protect consistency and stability for Auckland students backed by dedicated teachers who serve them every day.”
A strike was previously declared on Thursday after Oea said that the boycott failed to fulfill its legal commitment to the participation of the basic information requested by teachers for more than a year. The teachers said that the information “was necessary to understand the impact of the proposed cuts on schools, employees and boycott resources.”
“Going forward, we urge the region to include the Oakland Education Association as a real partner in forming decisions that affect our schools, students and their families,” Taiz-Rancifer added. “This means ensuring that we are working together on the decisions of transparent and responsible budget, and for leadership that appreciates teachers, families and students as basic voices in creating a stable and prosperous future for public schools in Auckland.”
