Oakland awarded $10m grant for safer streets, bike paths in East Oakland

(BCN) -City officials announced on Thursday that the city of Auckland received a $ 10 million grant from the Housing incentives program in the Metropolitan Transport Committee (HIP) to finance street safety improvements and infrastructure throughout the northeastern campus campus.

The grant will support the second and three phase of access to the laurel to Mills, MaxWell Park and Semenary (Lammps), which includes a new path for joint use and street upgrades along Macarthur Street and School Street.

“Public safety and housing is among my most important priorities, and this grant of $ 10 million on the front helps on the fronts,” Mayor Barbara Lee said in a statement.

The project focuses on the high injuries network in Auckland, which includes 8 % of the city’s streets where 60 % of serious accidents occur. Officials indicated that it aims to make walking and ride a bicycle more safe in East Auckland.

It is also linked to funding from granting the state worth $ 44 million, 119 housing units, at reasonable prices near Eastont Mall.

The construction timelines for the improvement of Lammps have not been announced.
