'Not just workers': California Farm Bureau defends agricultural employees amongst ICE raids

(Crohn) – California’s farm office speaks against the last wave of ice activity (immigration and customs) and supporting the agricultural workforce that they say are “necessary for the success and sustainability of agriculture and education in the state.”

In a statement issued on Friday, CFB says that there will be unpleasant crops, suffering from rural companies, and high food prices without these indispensable employees.

“Agriculture in California depends on its working power and its evaluation. Farm staff are not just workers – they are partners in this industry,” said Brian Little, director of politics defense at the farm office in California. “The current approach to the enforcement of federal immigration has a disturbing impact on rural societies in California, farmers, livestock breeders, workers and families who live there and work there.”

According to CFB, a third of the American agricultural workforce is located in California and the state is the leading product of fruits, vegetables and nuts in the country.

“If the activities of the enforcement of federal immigration continue in this direction, it will become increasingly difficult to produce and treat food and make it on the shelves of grocery stores,” Little added. “The stable and reliable workforce is very important to maintain the nation’s food security.”

Little acknowledged that “CFB” is “encouraged” that US President Donald Trump “called for more separate and cautious measures” to interfere in agricultural operations.
