Nick Cannon says the mothers of his 12 kids don’t need to be friends.
During the Aug. 13 episode of Nick Cannon @ Night , the TV host, 44, made it clear that there’s no expectation for the mothers of his 12 children to be close.
“Do you know six women anywhere that get along?” he joked.
“They don’t have to. They have their own lives,” he added, explaining that while some families choose to be more interconnected, his approach is different.
“It’s just that I’m not like this king of some harem that’s telling people what they have to do. It’s more about, sure, if you have your own personal relationship, have at it, but it’s not a prerequisite.”
Cannon, who shares kids with Mariah Carey, Brittany Bell, Abby De La Rosa, Alyssa Scott, Bre Tiesi and LaNisha Cole, says each woman runs her own household.
“I think everybody enjoys having the respect of their own household, their own family, but once you start grouping people together, then I think that’s when you can create confusion. That’s when egos get involved. That’s when comparisons get involved. And like I said, I’m learning and growing daily.”
He added, “I don’t bunch them together. I really try my hardest not to be like, ‘Oh yeah, my baby mamas’, you know, unless I’m telling a joke or something like that, but no one wants to be grouped into anything.”
Elsewhere in the episode, Cannon explained why he doesn’t like the term “co-parenting.”
“When you start throwing labels on things, I think it does more harm than help and can get very dangerous, because then everybody else has a preconceived notion of what you’re doing,” he said.
He continued, “I haven’t figured it out yet. I haven’t gotten it all the way right. But also to your point, if I just step into every situation with respect and compassion and individuality. That’s the other thing I always do with anyone I’m involved with in my life.”
